Poorvi Chothani is the Founder and Managing Partner of LawQuest, an immigration and employment law firm in Mumbai, India. She is licensed to practice law in India, the U.S. and England & Wales.  She is also the Manager Partner of LawQuest Global, PLLC

Poorvi has significant experience in U.S., Indian and U.K. immigration laws and leads a highly responsive and reliable team of highly experienced professionals.

Poorvi is a seasoned attorney who works with companies, and High Networth Individuals, to meet their immigration goals through every major policy change. Her experience includes, immigration audits, immigration compliance during corporate re-structuring, mergers and acquisitions and other corporate actions. Poorvi, who is described as “the best of the best in India” by peers, regularly speaks and writes about immigration issues and policies and contributes to major news agencies and publications and has served as editor to publications at the ABA, AILA and the IBA.

Poorvi, a founding member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA)’s Bangkok District Chapter (APAC-BDC) has served on its steering group and committees several times and organized BDC’s unique Annual Conference in Chennai as Conference Chair.  She is a founding member and past Chair of the AILA Global Migration Section (GMS). Poorvi, an Executive Committee member of the Penn Club of Mumbai and a member of AILA’s Publication Committee, also the holds the position of Co-Chair of the Immigration Committee at the International Bar Association (IBA). Poorvi is listed as an Elite Thought Leader and leading immigration lawyer and has been nominated each year since 2009, amongst the world’s leading immigration private practice lawyers by Who’s Who Legal (WWL) and it’s independent research, supplemented by clients and peers, as being among the highest-ranked Lawyer in WWL: Thought Leaders Global Elite 2024.

Poorvi has been the past President of The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce’s Western Region, The American Alumni Association (AAA), Mumbai, the Convener of the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF), Mumbai Chapter, and a founding member of the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA) India Chapter.

Poorvi is a prolific author, and her articles are published in leading publications (print and electronic) on several immigration matters. Poorvi has edited and contributed multiple chapters to a biennial publication – Global Mobility – An Immigration Handbook, which is now in its 5th edition. She has also authored extensive chapters on U.S. consular processing for the Consular Handbook published by the ILW. She has written on a similar topic for Interpreter Releases and is also the author of the India chapter on Consular Processing, published by AILA.

She is actively involved in fund raising activities for education related charities and under her leadership, the team at LawQuest renders pro-bono services to several charitable institutes throughout the year.   She runs her law firm on the principles of Vedanta following the Theory of Karma.  LawQuest encourages women at the workplace by offering them flexibility and insisting on work-life balance.

She was also nominated for the prestigious ICICI-CNBCTV18 Emerging India Awards as “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year–SME” for 2013.

Poorvi was one of the 101 women lawyers from all over the world who wrote about how they set up their own law firms in ABA’s prestigious publication, “The Road to Independence: 101 Women’s Journeys to Starting Their Own Law Firms.”
