Lam Ko Luen is a Partner in Shook Lin & Bok, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where he heads the Arbitration (International & Domestic), the Building, Construction & Engineering and the Insurance departments. He also co-heads the Dispute Resolution practice area of the firm.

Ko Luen has been in practice for over 29 years and acts as counsel, arbitrator and adjudicator.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators as well as the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators and is listed in the panel of arbitrators of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), Borneo International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation (BICAM), Hainan International Arbitration Court (HIAC), Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB) International, The Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators (MIArb), Maldives International Arbitration Centre (MIAC), South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (also known as Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration) (SCIA), South China International Arbitration Center (HK) (SCIAHK) and Thailand Arbitration Centre (THAC). Ko Luen is also listed in the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC)’s list of arbitrators and a member of the AIAC’s panel of adjudicators.

Ko Luen was the President of the MIArb (June 2013 to June 2015) and is currently a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. He is also a board member of ICC Malaysia.

Ko Luen has been recognised in various publications including Chambers & Partners Asia, The Legal 500, Benchmark Litigation Asia Pacific, Asialaw Profiles and IFLR1000 and has been named as one of the ‘10 Top Influential Construction Dispute Resolution Lawyers in Malaysia for 2023’ in Business Today Lawyer Awards 2023 (July 20, 2023). He has also contributed to several legal publications on arbitration, litigation and construction.

He is currently the Vice Chair of the International Construction Projects Committee of the IPBA.
